The ceremonial groundbreaking on May 20, 2026 marked an important milestone for the new Zoo-Parking Erdbeergraben. Representatives of the Basel Zoo and participating project partners came together to celebrate the symbolic start of the construction of the shell. After the excavation work and the construction of the foundation slab are completed, the actual construction of the car park will begin in June 2026. The opening is scheduled for the end of 2027.
As the operator of the future car park, AMAG Parking will make an important contribution to sustainable mobility in Basel. Located directly next to the zoo grounds, 286 modern parking spaces will be created on four underground levels. 50 parking spaces with charging infrastructure for electric vehicles will be available from the start, with more being added if needed.
The new parking facility not only improves access to the Basel Zoo but also reduces traffic congestion in the surrounding neighbourhoods. Thanks to its proximity to Basel SBB station, it also offers an attractive park-and-ride mobility solution for commuters and visitors to the city.
The construction work is proceeding according to plan. The shell is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2027, and the opening of the new Zoo-Parking is still planned for the end of 2027. With this project, AMAG Parking is expanding its range of modern and future-oriented mobility solutions at an attractive location in the heart of Basel.
