An exceptional story

Company history

How it all started

Pioneer Franz Vasicek established Garage Riesbach AG in 1937.

In 1952, the company expanded into the field of car park management and has operated the Utoquai, Zürichhorn, Bleicherweg, Talgarten and Kongresshaus car parks in Zurich ever since. The first car-rental desks opened on Lindenstrasse in the Zurich district of Seefeld and at Zurich-Kloten airport in 1969 – initially under licence from Tilden, National, Kemwel, Budget and, subsequently, Europcar. Careal Holding bought Garage Riesbach AG in 1994, incorporating it into its AMAG Group. 1995, AMAG became the principal owner and operator of the newly opened Messe Zürich multi-storey car park in Oerlikon. Garage Riesbach AG was renamed AMAG Services AG in the year 2000 – a move that underlined the close ties with the AMAG Group.

With Rathaus Parking (2008) at the City Hall in Bern and the Diana multi-storey car park (2011) in Schaffhausen, AMAG Parking AG provided further professional and innovative full-service solutions for multi-storey car park management. The Opéra multi-storey car park on Sechseläutenplatz opened in 2012. The AMAG Group is the principal owner and the operator of this car park. In 2017, AMAG Parking AG started operating the Neuhard car park in Olten – a key rail hub in Switzerland. Car Park Management became a separate legal entity under AMAG Parking AG in 2018

A significant expansion of the e-charging stations in the car parks took place. The first stage with around 140 charging stations was implemented in the car park of Utoquai, Messe and Kongress in summer 2022. The Opéra car park has also been equipped with 17 charging stations since the beginning of 2024. AMAG Parking AG has been using state-of-the-art technologies since 2023/24: The introduction of automatic license plate recognition and mobile payment options has significantly improved the parking experience and further advanced digitalization.

A look into the future: AMAG Parking AG will operate the new Basel Zoo multi-storey parking lot from summer 2027.
